FAQs
There are many questions around fertility and we have answered the most commonly asked below. Our Patient Administrators will be available to answer any initial questions by phone or email.
How Do I make an appointment? You can make an appointment any time by calling our Patient Administration team or sending us a message via the Contact Form.Your GP can also make a referral to us through email or referral letter.
Is there a long waiting time for appointments? There are no waiting lists for appointments. Generally, an appointment can be organised within two weeks of contacting us or being referred from a Consultant or GP. You can prepare for your appointment by completing some initial blood tests and for your partner having semen analysis beforehand. This will allow our Consultant to discuss your next steps.
Is it common to need fertility treatment?80 out of a 100 couples who are trying naturally to conceive will have a baby within a year of trying. 1 in 6 couples though will need some form of fertility treatment which can vary from a simple intervention to further advanced treatment. The causes of fertility issues can almost be equally attributed to both the female and male partner and therefore the treatment involves the couple. What is involved at the first appointment? At the first appointment, you’ll meet a fertility consultant and a nurse specialist, if any blood tests are required.During your appointment, we will go through your full medical history and examine any results of your blood tests and semen analysis (if applicable), if you have already completed them prior to this appointment. Are partners required to attend each appointment?Partners do not have to attend every appointment. Male partners must attend the first consultation, the baseline scan (where the consents for treatment are signed) and, if the treatment is IVF or ICSI, on the day of the egg collection if the partner's own sperm is to be used.Female partners must attend the first consultation and the consent meeting. Is there an age limit for treatment? As a guideline, at in-OVO Fertility Clinic, we treat female patients who are over 23 years and under 45 years of age, though each patient's situation will be considered on a case-by-case basis. The chances of success from treatment for women over 45 years of age using their own eggs are very low and in this case our recommendation is treatment with donor eggs. At In-OVO Fertility Clinic we can treat women with egg donation up until their 48th birthday.
Will I see the same doctor or nurse at each appointment? You may not always meet the same people, but we have an excellent communication system and every team member keeps up to date and will manage your care to the highest standard.
What should I do if I am finding treatment difficult to cope with?Fertility treatment can be difficult but the team of In-OVO Fertility Clinic are here to support you throughout your journey. Our patient administration and nursing team are available to answer any questions you may have. We have Fertility Counsellors available at In-OVO Fertility Clinic and this service is available for two sessions free of charge. If you would like to book a session, please contact our team to organise an appointment for you or provide the counsellors details so that you can contact them directly.
Can I take other medications whilst having fertility treatment? If you need to take over-the-counter medications, we would recommend you to speak to one of the nurses and they will assist you. I am in a same-sex relationship and we would like to have a family. Can you help us?Yes, we welcome many same-sex couples through our doors for pregnancy help, whether you need treatment with donor sperm or donor eggs.
