Egg Freezing

Why freeze your eggs?

Egg freezing is one of the fastest growing fertility treatments, and In-OVO Fertility Clinic is at the forefront of this treatment. Egg freezing is an option to consider for fertility preservation if you are at risk of premature ovarian failure, premature menopause or if you are having surgery to remove your ovaries. It can also help preserve your fertility if you are undergoing radiotherapy or chemotherapy treatment for illnesses such as cancer.
Egg freezing is an option for many women who are interested in preserving their fertility for personal reasons. Elective Egg Freezing (also known as Social Egg Freezing) is fertility preservation for non-medical or non-emergency reasons. For many varied reasons, women are choosing to start their families later in life; therefore the opportunity to freeze eggs at a younger age to preserve fertility is an attractive option. Elective Egg Freezing offers you the opportunity to plan your family for a convenient time in your life, free from the concern that your fertility may be impaired as you grow older.
The first step in the process of egg freezing is a fertility assessment to ensure that egg freezing is an appropriate treatment for you. Once you decide to go ahead with treatment, the start of the cycle is similar to IVF.. Once the eggs are collected, they will be assessed, cryopreserved (frozen) and stored until you decide that you are ready to use them. The Freezing Process Your eggs will be vitrified ( fast freezing) which very quickly transforms them into a glass-like state.

When you are ready to start a family using your frozen eggs, you will be commenced on a course of medication to prepare your uterus to ensure it is synchronised and ready to receive an embryo created from your frozen eggs. ICSI is the recommended laboratory technique for fertilisation of the frozen eggs and involves the injection of a single sperm directly into the egg to achieve fertilisation. An embryologist will update you on fertilisation and embryo development and will guide you as to when to return to the clinic for your embryo transfer.
How long can eggs be stored for?Eggs can be frozen for 10 years, but if you’re ready to start your journey to motherhood earlier, they can be ready when you are. There are also circumstances whereby we keep your eggs frozen for a longer period of time. The egg freezing treatment cost covers the first year of storage. There is a separate storage fee for frozen eggs after the first year. The fee is payable in advance – see our price list for further details. We will carry out fertility treatment with frozen eggs up to your 48th birthday. What is the success rate with egg freezing? The success rate depends on your age at the time of the egg collection and the number of eggs that can be retrieved from your ovaries. In order to have a successful fertility treatment in future, between 18-20 mature eggs will be needed approximately. Depending on your AMH level, you may need more than one round or treatment.
  • Does egg freezing guarantee a baby?
There is not a guarantee that freezing eggs will end up with a successful pregnancy, but offers some reassurance for the future. Success with frozen eggs depends on the age and quality of the eggs when they were frozen. The younger you are when you freeze your eggs, the better the chance of success when you return to use them.
